Mooers and Clinton County Communities to Celebrate 175th Anniversary of the Northern Railroad
Mooers, NY – The Town of Mooers is proud to take part in a county-wide celebration marking the 175th Anniversary of the Northern Railroad, which played a key role in the development of Northern New York and New England. According to historian H.K. Averill, the first full-line run from Ogdensburg to Lake Champlain took place on September 28, 1850.
In recognition of this milestone, Woodmen of the World Chapter 462 has generously sponsored the placement of blue and gold historical markers in each Clinton County community that the original line passed through. These markers will serve as permanent tributes to the significance of the railway in our region's past.
The public is invited to attend brief ceremonies and unveilings at each location on Saturday, September 27, 2025, beginning at 9:00 AM in Cherubusco and ending at 3:00 PM in Rouses Point. The full schedule is as follows:
- 9:00 AM – Churubusco
- 10:00 AM – Ellenburg Depot
- 11:00 AM – Altona
- 12:00 PM – Mooers Forks
- 1:00 PM – Mooers
- 2:00 PM – Champlain Village
- 3:00 PM – Rouses Point
We welcome all members of the public, local historians, students, and railroad enthusiasts to join us in honoring this remarkable piece of Clinton County’s heritage
