Beautification Meetings

Every 3rd Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM

Anyone interested in joining our active volunteer committee contact mooersbeautification@mooersny.com

Veteran Park

When donating to our Veterans Park Brick program the Town Clerk has requested the checks be written to "Town of Mooers". My suggestion is to write Veterans Park or Beautification at the bottom of your check in the memo line.

We will be purchasing four more benches with engravings on them which will be installed in the Spring of 2025. These benches will be set along our walkways with additional Paver platforms under them. This will give eight new opportunities for sponsoring a bench. These will be the same donation as the original 8 benches in the Park now. There will be 4 bench plaques and 4 engraving plaques. At this time 4 of these sponsorship donations are available. The donation is $750 for a sponsorship and we will design a plaque with a memorial or honoree of your choice. Contact Vicki Brassard if you would like to sponsor a bench or engraving at 518-572-2597.

Mooers and Mooers Forks Recreation Parks

Playgrounds: At this time the Beautification Committee has been restoring the playground at the Mooers Recreation Park. We have cleaned and urethane the playground units, cleaned and painted the 15 picnic tables, pressure washed, and started painting the Rest Room building, we used red paint which matches the picnic tables. We have been talking with multiple specialized playground companies and Recreation Directors about what we can do to improve our playgrounds and make them safe for the children. When the plans are complete, we will post an update.

Christmas Decorations throughout Mooers and Mooers Forks

We will be adding five additional lights this year on Route 11 through Mooers. To add additional lights, we needed to purchase special plug-in boxes for the NYSEG Poles we plan on using, and then NYSEG linemen will install those boxes. The boxes have been ordered and a work order has been initiated.

Flowerpots

We will continue to set flowerpots throughout our town for summer and thank everyone who weeds or waters those pots. Thank You to those who keep the mediums mowed and trimmed this adds a little neatness to our town. Everyone appreciates the visible efforts.

Welcome Signs

The six welcome signs on the boundaries of our Town were all re-painted last year. Unfortunately, we will be discussing a plan to restore or replace the welcome signs entering Mooers from Champlain and entering Mooers from Ellenburg. These are very large welcome signs. They have stood well against our North Country weather but sadly are breaking down. After discussion with the highway and our Town Board, we will be making plans to replace them next Spring 2025.

Earth Day in May

We had a great Clean-up day last year on May 11 with about 15 volunteers. We started at 10 Am. Dunkin Donuts donated coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts for this event. The Town was not cluttered with debris or garbage so we were able to clean up by the old bridge, rake and trim the main street medium, and clear some leaves and brush out of the Old riverside cemetery. We finished up around 1 PM.

Christmas Decoration Contest

We will once again have a contest for Christmas yard decorating The dates for applications to be entered will be December 8th. Those applications will be available on November 1st. There will be 1st place $100, 2nd place $75, and 3rd place $50. Winners last year were First Place- Ana Garrant, state Rt. 11, Second Place- Betty Hebert, Herrick Rd., and Third Place-Laurie and Alain Garrand, Hemingford Rd. Thank You for entering and sharing your beautiful decorations with the community.

What we can do to improve the aesthetics of our Town

Help a neighbor who may be struggling with their lawns in the summer, avoid discarded items piling up outside, maybe your neighbor is struggling with sickness and can't get their garbage to the curb or landfill. If there is a garage sale, find a way to clear items that didn't sell, rather than have metal items or broken-down unregistered vehicles sit in the yard bring them to the salvage yard and get cash for them, sometimes they will even arrange to have them picked up. If the sidewalks get overgrown with branches and weeds call the Town office to have them removed not everyone has the ability or means to take care of this type of work. This year we have seen an increase of people walking throughout the town, this is nice to see, and we will continue working towards getting these sidewalks rebuilt or re-surfaced. This is an expensive project and takes much planning.
