The town of Mooers is seeking a dedicated grounds keeper to maintain the appearance and safety of the town owned grounds, including parks, recreational areas, buildings, and other public spaces. This role requires a commitment to quality upkeep and the ability to perform a variety of physical tasks in various weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform general grounds maintenance, such as mowing, weeding, planting, trimming, and pruning of lawns, flowerbeds, shrubs and trees.
Operate and maintain a variety of grounds equipment and hand tools, including lawn mowers, string trimmers, blowers, chainsaws and tillers.
Clean and maintain town grounds, including removing trash, debris, and leaves from walkways, parking lots, and other public areas.
Perform snow removal and ice mitigation of town property, including plowing, shoveling, sanding, and salting.
Assist with the setup and cleanup of town events and special projects as needed.
Perform minor repairs and maintenance on grounds keeping equipment and others town facilities.
Maintain accurate records and reports on grounds keeping activities and equipment maintenance.
Adhere to safety procedures and regulations, including the proper use of protective gear.
Participates in the preparation, layout and maintenance of athletic fields.
Performs semi-skilled work in masonry, carpentry, electrical, or painting operations.
Helps to install and repair wiring systems and electric fixtures and equipment.
Repairs windows, doors, floors, walls, and other parts of buildings.
May conduct inspections of certain parts of buildings and properties and makes note of any deficiencies;
Does interior and exterior painting.
Helps to install and repair general plumbing equipment, such as sinks, toilets.
Special Requirements:
If operation of a motor vehicle is required for this position, the candidate must be eligible for the appropriate level New York State drivers license. Candidate must have possession of the license prior to acceptance of the position.
Work Environment:
May be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays, particularly during peak seasons and special events.
Work is performed under the general guidance of the Town Secretary, with input from the Town Board.
Salary will commensurate with experience.
Qualifications:
Working knowledge of grounds maintenance activities and landscaping practices.
